Subjects We Teach

At Chiltern Hills Academy, our curriculum is designed to inspire ambition, unlock potential and prepare every student for life beyond the classroom.

Rooted in our vision — Create, Aspire and Excel to live life in all its fullness — we offer a broad, balanced and inclusive education that helps young people grow into confident, capable and compassionate individuals.

We tailor our curriculum to meet the needs of our diverse school community, combining academic, creative and vocational learning to help each student find their path and flourish.

Key Stage 3: Building Strong Foundations

In Years 7 and 8, students follow a rich and varied curriculum based on the National Curriculum. These early years are about sparking curiosity, exploring talents and developing essential skills in:

  • English, Maths and Science
  • History and Geography
  • French and Spanish
  • Art, Drama, Dance and Music
  • Design & Technology (Food, Graphics, Resistant Materials, Textiles)
  • ICT and Computing
  • Physical Education
  • PRE (Philosophy, Religion & Ethics)
  • PSHE

We also offer:

  • Extra Curricular Programme – part of our extended school day, helping students try new things, develop interests, and build confidence.
  • Leadership Opportunities – such as peer mentoring and Student Voice, supporting personal development and active citizenship.

Life Skills plays an important role in helping students explore topics like resilience, mental health, positive relationships, and British values including democracy and the rule of law.

Key Stage 4: Tailored Pathways for Every Learner

In Years 9–11, all students study a strong core
curriculum of:

  • English Language and Literature
  • Mathematics
  • Combined or Triple Science
  • Physical Education (non-examined)
  • PRE (Philosophy, Religion & Ethics)
  • PSHE

Alongside this, students choose from a wide range of guided options that reflect their interests, strengths and future ambitions.

These include:

Creative and Performing Arts
Art, Photography, Media, Drama, Dance, Music, Product Design, Food & Nutrition

Humanities and Social Sciences
History, Geography, Business Studies, Child Development

Languages and Technology
French, Spanish, Computer Science, Engineering, Construction

Vocational and Applied Learning
BTEC Tech Awards in Sport and other vocational qualifications
