SIAMS and Ofsted

At Chiltern Hills Academy, our commitment to excellence is reflected in both our Ofsted and SIAMS (Statutory Inspection of Anglican and Methodist Schools) reports. These external inspections help us reflect, grow and continue delivering the best possible experience for our students, families, and wider community.

What is SIAMS?

SIAMS stands for the Statutory Inspection of Anglican and Methodist Schools. It evaluates how Church of England schools live out their Christian vision and values. The inspection looks at how well a school supports the spiritual development, wellbeing, and inclusivity of its whole community—not just those of faith.

As a Church of England academy, we are regularly inspected under the SIAMS framework, which evaluates how our Christian vision shapes all aspects of school life.

The inspection focuses on how well our vision—Create, Aspire and Excel to ‘Live life in all its fullness’ (John 10:10)—impacts the flourishing of every student and adult in our school. This includes how we live out our core values of love, compassion, hope, honesty, forgiveness, respect and self-discipline in everyday life.

  • The impact of our Christian vision on learning, behaviour and wellbeing
  • How well we support spiritual development for all
  • How we work with the church and wider community
  • How inclusive and welcoming our school is to pupils of all backgrounds and beliefs

Our work with the Oxford Diocese helps us prepare for and reflect on SIAMS inspections. Through training, resources, and spiritual support, the Diocese ensures our school continues to thrive as a values-led, inclusive Christian community.

What is Ofsted?

Ofsted is the official body for inspecting schools in England. It assesses the quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development, and leadership—giving parents and the public an independent view of how well a school is performing.

As a Church of England academy, we are regularly inspected under At Chiltern Hills Academy, we are proud to be recognised by Ofsted as a school that continues to provide a strong, supportive and high-quality education for all.

In our most recent inspection (September 2022), we were judged to be ‘Good’ in all categories, with particular praise for our curriculum ambition, inclusive ethos and calm learning environment.

“Leaders are highly ambitious for all pupils at the school, and the curriculum is at the heart of this ambition. Leaders have high aspirations for pupils to achieve the best possible qualifications.”
– Ofsted, 2022

Inspectors also noted:

“High expectations for pupils’ behaviour mean that lessons are positive and purposeful, and that behaviour is calm around school.”
