At Chiltern Hills Academy, we believe that education goes beyond the classroom. TFCHA (Thought for Chiltern Hills Academy) is a key part of our school life, helping students to reflect on big ideas, current events, and the values that shape us — both as individuals and as a community.
Guided by our Christian ethos and our vision to “Live life in all its fullness” (John 10:10), TFCHA encourages students to think deeply, express themselves respectfully, and engage with the world around them.
TFCHA is a structured programme created by staff to support our Form Tutors in leading thoughtful discussions during tutor time. Each two-week topic centres around a relevant theme — such as a national event, a moral question, or one of our Academy values — and is explored through:
These sessions are designed to be inclusive and accessible for all students, offering opportunities to explore different viewpoints, consider ethical questions, and better understand themselves and others.

The TFCHA programme helps students:
Through these sessions, students develop empathy, critical thinking, and the confidence to express their ideas. They are encouraged to challenge stereotypes, celebrate difference, and live out our school values of respect, compassion, honesty, forgiveness and hope.

Our students are at the heart of TFCHA. Through the Student Council, they help shape and evaluate the programme — suggesting topics, leading assemblies, and even co-delivering messages alongside senior staff.
Students also take part in related charitable events such as:

TFCHA supports our commitment to students’ Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural development (SMSC) and reinforces core British values through:
We aim to help students become thoughtful, confident citizens who understand their place in a diverse and ever-changing world.

Each topic connects to our school values and offers students a chance to reflect, question, and grow — both spiritually and personally.
Each thought is used for two weeks and a PowerPoint is provided as a resource and stimulus. These resources will be found in PDF format below, as they are produced.

TFCHA is more than just a programme — it’s a shared experience that brings our values to life. We see its impact every day in the respectful, compassionate and engaged way our students interact with each other and the world around them.
Our goal is simple: that every student leaves Chiltern Hills Academy knowing who they are, what they stand for, and how they can make a difference.
